Tablets, capsules, liquids, powders: supplements come in many forms these days, which is a good thing, since it gives consumers a wide range of choices.
Let’s forget about powders for the moment – why? Because by having a close look at the medicine’s forms, we will find only tablets, capsules, and liquids – there are only a few powders, mostly antibiotics; however, you must dilute them with water following specific instructions before using them as liquids.
However, both capsules and, especially, tablets tend to contain additional (usually inert) ingredients known as excipients, which are used to bind, preserve, and add bulk to the supplement, or to help tablets break down quickly in the stomach. Excipients are usually harmless, but some people may be allergic or sensitive to the ingredients used. In addition, more than 40% of the population have difficulties in swallowing tablets and capsules.
Effervescent tablets are becoming increasingly popular in a variety of sectors, including supplements, due to the ease with which they can be consumed. Effervescent tablets are designed to break in contact with liquid such as water or juice, causing the tablet to dissolve into a solution. They provide a much more efficient way of use due to being distributed evenly and much more quickly than regular tablets, and they taste better as they can be added to water or a liquid drink to be used after all as liquids.
Moreover, all the above forms have to deal with two important issues – firstly, neither tablets/ Effervescent tablets nor capsules offer the flexibility of dosing that liquids do, and most importantly, especially in terms of proteins, they have specific limitations concerning both the number of ingredients and the volume of every ingredient included. Tablets and capsules have limitations concerning their dimension. In other words, you cannot have 10 g of collagen on a capsule or a tablet.
Having all of the above in mind, it is about time to present the liquids:
Liquids take some minutes to assimilate, whereas capsules or tablets (pills) can take from 20 to 30 minutes just to break down, before the body can even start to assimilate them. As a rule, the nearer a preparation approaches the liquid form, the quicker and more completely it will assimilate and take effect in your body.
Liquids, we can have many ingredients in the appropriate volumes with no limitations, and in powders as well. And liquids can be fully homogenized with great consistency in daily dose and effectiveness.
And what about powders?
Although the powders are the most cost-effective form to produce with great flexibility in dosing and obviously with a lower self-price than the liquids, we must take into consideration the following key factors:
- Vitamins and minerals do not mix properly/easily, especially when they are dissolved in liquid.
- Vitamins and proteins do not mix properly under the same temperature conditions.
iii. Vitamins are heat sensitive – temperatures above 25°C reduce the vitamins’ content, decreasing the dose and effectiveness.
- Vitamins are PH sensitive – any change in the pH levels can reduce the active ingredients’ content
- Most of the raw materials used in dietary supplements come in powder form. However, the molecular weight is different
Powders are suffering from segregation. Powders are made up of many nutrient molecules, both large and small. The smaller particles tend to collect towards the bottom of a powder mixture, making it very hard to get a consistent dosage of the same vitamins and proteins every time, in every dose. Powders cannot be a fully homogenized product.
Even more, every consumer has their own specific “formulation process” to mix the powder product with water or any other liquid, cold or hot, with a different PH. Individual mixing habits (hot vs. cold liquid, pH differences) introduce variability that producers cannot control. For example, diluting the powder in a hot drink destroys vitamins.
Pro-active® ADVANCED and Cynergy MED® ADVANCED
“Precision-formulated liquid collagen supplements for maximum stability, consistency, and daily effectiveness.”
Our premium liquid collagen supplements are produced under strict pharmaceutical standards, in carefully controlled temperature and pH conditions to preserve the integrity of collagen peptides and sensitive active ingredients. Our products are “formulated, not mixed.”
Each serving is fully homogenized to ensure uniform distribution of collagen and active nutrients. Unlike powders that are diluted at home — often in hot or acidic liquids — our ready-to-drink formulas protect sensitive ingredients from temperature and pH-related degradation.
Pro-active® ADVANCED and Cynergy MED® ADVANCED are ready to drink. No mixing. No preparation. Just effective daily nutrition.
